Speaking for all of the millions of not-size-two girls, I love this girl. And Beyonce. But that's for another lady-crush post (16 Grammies, bootylicious, married to Jay Z, actress/vocalist double threat, but I digress...).
I think the role of "normal" sized celebrities such as Scarlett is invaluable in a society where this:
is the common template of beauty.
This a usual rant among relatively conscious women who can open their eyes enough to see the ridiculous standards we put ourselves. There's nothing wrong with role models who make us consider who we are and who we want to be, but to what extent?
This is why I like Scarlett, a gorgeous, talented starlet who has not only avoided the Hollywood habit of dropping pounds as soon as her career takes off (ahem, Lindsey Lohan post-Mean Girls), but has actively addressed the issue, blaming the media. I recently came across her short piece in the Huffington Post from just over a year ago, where she addresses the issue:
"Losing 14 pounds out of necessity in order to live a healthier life is a huge victory. If I were to lose 14 pounds, I'd have to part with both arms. And a foot. I'm frustrated with the irresponsibility of tabloid media who sell the public ideas about what we should look like and how we should get there... The press should be held accountable for the false ideals they sell to their readers regarding body image — that's the real weight of the issue."

I guess my point is this: Where's Megan Fox's public commentary on women in the media and weight? We need more women in the spotlight who are willing to accept their role (as role models) and actually address their place in the body-image food chain. For this, I love Scarlett.
PLUS, she's the new campaign girl for the fabulous urban-line, MANGO. I'll leave you with a couple images from that campaign.
scarlett is gorgeous and i love the fact she is not trying to look like someone she is not like lindsay ! lindsay was so curvy in mean girls and now look at her ! she is skinny !
ReplyDeleteWhat drives me nuts are celebrities who say when they are curvy : "i feel great ! i'm proud of my body" but like 6Mmonths later they lost weight and they go "i feel better now ! i eat healthy i work out" blabla...
